The Hunger Games is a story about a young girl, Katniss Everdeen. She lives in this world where a controlling government watches over 12 districts. Each district is in deep poverty and despises the controlling government—the “Capital.” The Capital holds a game each year where they take 2 tributes of each district from ages 12-17 and places them in a dome where the kids must fight to the death. The last survivor wins the games and earns a years’ worth food and oil for their district.
Make no mistake; this minor description is just the frosting on the cake. It is what you see up front, but when you take a bite you discover all the integrate flavors. (I am craving cake now. Anyone else like pie more than cake?)
The story is about perseverance and romance. (Is there any story that isn’t like that?) Katniss slowly falls in love with another boy in her district, but has a hard time trusting him because she would have to kill him during the games. The book clearly has taken roots from one of my all time favorite TV shows, “Survivor.”
Katniss is a very loveable and emotional girl. She loves her family and loves to hunt with her bow. The author’s style of writing is beyond addicting, and her twists at the end of every single chapter makes you stay up all night and read until the sun comes back up. (I read this book in 2 days, and I am a slow reader!)
This story holds substance that is a great for teenagers and adults. If you are a Twilight fan, then you will find some help from this comment, and if you are not a fan, then quickly divert your eyes before your positive impression of the Hunger Games is destroyed.
In reference to Hunger Games, Stephanie Meyers said, “I was so obsessed with this book I had to take it with me out to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so I wouldn’t have to stop reading. The story kept me up for several nights in a row, because ever after I finished, I just lay in bed wide awake thinking about it….The Hunger Games is amazing.”
STEPHEN KING, in reference to Hunger Games, said, “The Hunger Games is a violent, jarring speed-rap if a novel that generates nearly constant suspense….I couldn’t stop reading.” I love Stephen King.
My final rating: 5/5 Stars. This novel deserves everyone’s attention.
Nice review. And I agree, the book was amazing. Are you going to review the other two books?
